Skills
A lot of this role requires work on Excel, and so overtime I became more proficient in Excel for a variety of uses. This is alongside other Microsoft 365 programs like PowerPoint and Power BI. You'll also be sourcing box office information frequently through Comscore, so this is a website you'll be familiar with as you progress. Lastly, communication skills will be developed through communicating with internal and external stakeholders, and also through presentation opportunities that come up in the course of the internship.
Responsibilities
There's a mix of shared and self-owned tasks/projects, so the level of responsibility differs across them. However, overall even in shared tasks there was still a high level of responsibility with the specific area that you oversee, which is great as you feel like you're a valued part of everything you're assigned to.
Support & Guidance
Everyone in the department, including the content strategy team themselves, are willing to help out and answer questions when you need it, especially at the start when you're learning the ropes of different processes and also need background knowledge. Through this you'll also meet plenty of people across the Content Group, which is great for networking! The Early Careers team are also easily reachable for any queries that may be more specific to interns/the wider business.
Culture
From the first day you can sense that the company is very welcoming to interns, and they make sure you're well supported during the course of the internship. Everyone I've met throughout NBCUniversal, whether at events or coffee chats, have been so friendly, forthcoming and easy to talk to, which makes for a great working and learning environment. The employee resource groups are fantastic initiatives to get involved in and meet new people, as well as explore something you might be passionate in beyond your day job.
Your Impressions
I can genuinely say that I've enjoyed every part of the internship, and look forward to coming in and seeing everyone on the days we come into the office. This role in particular such a great introduction into the film business and you have the opportunity to tailor the internship to your interests as well. In the wider business, there are many events on throughout the year that you'll be able to partake in too (e.g screenings, talks), which has made the time here even more interesting.
Yes
As cliche as it sounds, definitely be yourself in the interview process as it's important for both you and the interviewers to ensure you're a good fit to the team and department! Bring up what you're passionate about (where relevant) and don't be afraid to ask questions either if you want to know about anything like the culture or the role in more detail. Do some research into the company and it's values beforehand, as this could come in useful too.
