Overview
I manage multiple projects at once, acting as the technical lead making decisions based on my technical understanding of the engineering system. I do this by leading meetings, presenting and creating technical documentation.
Skills
I've developed numerous skills whilst on placement, I am much more mature and confident in my own abilities. I have also developed a much deeper understanding of engineering systems and decisions.
Responsibilities
I was given complete ownership of multiple projects working on the final end product.
Support & Guidance
The support and guidance was generally good but varied depending on who and what was in question. My supervisor was very supportive, weekly 1:1 meetings aid in keeping you in the right direction.
Culture
The overall atmosphere was positive, a lot of autonomy is given to placement students with the freedom to work how you want as long as you deliver good work. All employees had the chance to participate in volunteering days whilst still getting a full days pay! However, recently the company culture has been soured by the Cummin's leadership team threatening redundancies and poor performance reviews.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, the responsibility and freedom given to placement students is outstanding. The social opportunities are great for those who go into the office.
Yes
Be honest during interviews and assessment days, ask plenty of questions and have a genuine interest in the product.
