    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My main responsibilities include creating and distributing regular internal communications, carrying out internal auditing tasks to ensure financial systems are accurate. I am also involved with other tasks outside of my role, including being Communications Lead for the Foundation Book Club for other students. It is also expected to find opportunities outside of my role throughout the year.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my communication skills, both verbal and written. I have learnt how to use Acoustic, an e-mail campaign software. I have also learnt how to use Salesforce Sales Cloud. My Microsoft apps skills have been improved, specifically Excel.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes. I was given the responsibility of creating and distributing internal communications that go out to over 4,000 people. I was also given the responsibility of facilitating a workshop to a clienlt.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had a two week handover period with the previous intern. I also recieved training on the email campaign software. There was a 2-day induction before starting. Most learning was done online.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Most people seem to work online / most meetings happen online. There is a large amount of interns which means socialising is good and networking. There are regular networking events.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed it somewhat. My role wasn't what I expected it to be but I have been given some good responsibilities. Amount of work can go up and down which gets frustating.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to IBM
  • To get involved with as much giveback as possible and find opportunities. Talk to senior employees to get involved with important projects. Ensure you set objectives from the beginning and have a set list of regular responsibilities.
