The Role
The placement year has been everything I wanted in my year and more - the role I was given has suited me perfectly and working for GSK has been great, they really put time and effort into your personal development and tailoring your year so that you get out of it exactly what you hope.
Being in such a large and global team, it was sometimes difficult to feel connected to everybody, but those that I worked with I felt valued by.
My manager gave me a huge amount of his time and supported my learning and development. His line manager also gave me a lot of time and support. There has not been a single occassion where I have needed support and it has not been available to me.
Sometimes I was not busy enough, and sometimes too busy, I think it is in the nature of the job that I carried out. Most of the time was a good medium.
I was given a lot of responsibility in my role, more so I feel than other roles and interns from other companies. I was treated like another member of staff and given sole responsibility for projects and tasks.
The skills I have learnt will assist my degree studies and thereafter. I feel I have learnt more valuable skills this year than the 2 years I have been at university. At university I have gained theoretical knowledge, whereas this year I have seen real business practice and how to apply skills and knowledge to projects and situations.
The Company
Sometimes the office was very quiet, other times fun.
At the beginning it took a while to settle and transition, but organisation on the whole was very good.
Unsurpassed investment in personal training and development. If you are willing to put the effort in yourself, the support is there. It is taken very seriously at GSK.

The Culture
Great potential for a social scene, half way through the year nobody made an effort to organise social events.
Very expensive area to live and socialize.
Amazing night life, if not expensive. Very close to central London so loads to do.
Not many outside of work activities unless you organised them yourself.
