Overview
My role is to help out the Facilities department. This consist of helping/running projects, filing and issuing jobs, helping out with asset registers and documents. I have been given my own projects that I have to manage, raise purchase orders and deal with contractors for and I also have given a hand on other projects. I issue jobs to contractors on site and I help out with the spreadsheets containing asset information.
Skills
I have improved my time management skills. This is because i have had to create deadlines for myself and also had to meet deadlines from other people. My communication skills have improved as i have had to learnt o communicate in different ways. Whether that be in a professional tone or a more informal tone. I have improved my IT skills the most - the use of excel, documents and basic IT applications.
Responsibilities
I have been given responsibility here and there. Some tasks hold more responsibility than others such as raising orders and being given a project to do. I feel it has been the right balance.
Support & Guidance
I have received a good amount of guidance. I can ask various people for help and most times receive feedback. I can also expect to be shown tasks before they expect me to complete them.
Culture
The company culture and atmosphere is great. Very welcoming, polite and kind atmosphere. This atmosphere definitely reflects the wider business values of Cummins. The culture of the company focuses on employee welfare and diversity. I feel that's what they care about.
Your Impressions
I will finish my placement in September but as of yet i am enjoying it. I enjoy the people, the role and knowing I am adding valuable experience to my CV. However, I am struggling sometimes to adapt to the working life as I have been at university for 2 years. I am enjoying my placement but also experience some lows as anyone would in a full time role.
Yes
My advice would be be yourself, apply yourself and if you don't feel you have the correct experience then go and get it. Overall Cummins is a great employer and you would enjoy it very much.
