The Role
I was never part of a regular team, and felt shunted around to different people. most people were polite, but i didnt feel anywone was interested at all in me. during my placement, a few new permanent staff arrived and instantly were given training, and attention which i never was. i feel my status as a student made people view me as insignificant.
i had no personal developement, my manager would set me tasks and not give me the advice or tools to do them, most times 1 to 1's were either cancelled with no notice or just not attended by manager.
initially i was left by myself, not really in part of a team, on my own doing nothing for days at a time.
most of what i was doing was looking for logbooks, copying them out and other small things.
i was placed in an office, when i was interviewed as a microbiologist, i had zero lab experience, i spent most of my time doing things that a 15 year old could have done with no problem. i was really disappointed.. :((
The Company
i had no personnel developement during the placement, no sense of what i had learned and havent come away with much at all.
i had zero investment. permanent staff who arrived after me were instantly given training packages which it took me months and months of asking to get. i had no personnel developement, no body took an interest at all. i had to write a project report, i did this entirely by myself with no input or interest from anyone.
as GSK is such a big company i will consider working for them. but during the interview i will always now need it made crystal clear of what i will be doing for the year, what my roles and responsibilities are.
The Culture
Brighton - fantastic! i really enjoyed living here!
