Overview
My role in product management means I work with various people across different departments in a multinational environment. My day-to-day role involves creating product overview presentations, assisting in product announcements , assisting in product health assessments by gathering and analysing data sets from Cummins products as well as competitors and conducting competitive analysis.
Skills
I have learnt numerous new skills whilst developing on existing ones. I have developed confidence, analytical skills and time management skills. I have also developed my skills in PowerPoint and Excel particularly. I have learnt technical knowledge based on engines, generators and many more and how to use the business’ software in assessing and evaluating data.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot more responsibilities as my time went on in the placement but at the start it was obvious my responsibilities would be low as I needed to learn and be trained on specific software. When I passed my 3 month probation, I was handed more responsibilities with the help of my team.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance from a lot of people in Cummins, not just my team. But my manager and my team have been a great support and really understanding when I had difficulty in completing some tasks. We have bi-weekly meetings with the team involving speaking about how we are doing in work and also personally so everyone knows when extra support is needed.
Culture
The company culture at Cummins is amazing and the atmosphere is really positive. Everyone is so kind, friendly and caring. Whenever I have difficulty in a task or situation someone is always there to offer help and the teamwork here is incredible, I truly feel a part of a great team.
Your Impressions
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement here with Cummins. It’s been a great experience and I’ve grown and learnt so much throughout my time. I’m really grateful to have such a supportive manager and team and for also the range of opportunities presented to me at Cummins, including volunteering for local community projects!
