Overview
Day-to-day, I create POs, clear invoices, input and manage contracts and price lists, analyse the savings and price differences for new materials between different suppliers, manage savings projects for the team, create powerbi dashboards and work on excel files, follow the paper price review and market data, collect spend reports, talk to suppliers and help implement new suppliers in different sourcing units
Skills
Yes, PowerBi and Excel skills have significantly improved, I have improved my negotiation and finance knowledge, I have developed my ability to talk in a professional manner and independently manage projects.
Responsibilities
I feel as if I have had significant responsibility, I am not hand-held during my day to day tasks and given independent and trust to do my work sufficiently. I am able to pursue my own savings projects, set up meetings, and I am expected to make my deadlines. I have large responsibilities in terms of analysing request for quotations, as this determines the allocation of new business and unilever spend.
Support & Guidance
I have a very friendly and supportive team, they are currently all women and it does feel as if we are a work-family. I know I have individual team members who i can ask for different things. At first in summer, I felt lost as a lot of people went on holiday but after talking to my LM, and setting up regular one to ones, there is a good support network
Culture
Friendly, supportive however if you want a job where you can face to face meet and see your team, my role in the UK is not great for that as you can feel sometimes a little sad you cannot participate in group dinners for example. As an IP Student, there are a lot of us, which makes it easy to settle
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed it for the job it is. Admittedly at first, I was not sure procurement was for me - there are some aspects of the job I do not enjoy such as invoices but I enjoy looking into business cases and savings projects for UL. I think this is linked personally to my degree, I like my responsibility linked to CSR (Supplier Diversity) and I have enjoyed having a good support network
Yes
Make sure you know how much you value where you work and the team you are within. This placement taught me I want to have a team in the UK and a closer office based system, and also make sure you utilise making connections and networking, I am trying to move to ANZ and have been able to make connections for over there!
