Skills
I have learnt negotiation skills and how to handle commercial conversations with buyers. I have enhanced my presentation skills significantly by presenting within my team but also through the Unilever Future Leaders League where I presented on stage in front of about 30 people. I have also improved my business acumen and understand more about the FMCG industry and how Unilever operates.
Responsibilities
I have been given huge amounts of responsibility - more than I had expected. The fact that I get to have commercial conversations with buyers at Tesco, on my own, with no supervision is a huge amount of responsibility that I would never have imagined.
Support & Guidance
I have had huge amounts of support and guidance from the future careers team at Unilever and also from my line manager and wider team. I would not be where I am today without their support. I love how supportive the culture is at Unilever.
Culture
The company culture is extremely supportive. I feel everyone wants me to be my best and encourages me to be the best version of myself. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help out. I also love the social aspects of the culture. We often have fun events both during and after the work day to get departments together, facilitate networking and have a good time with colleagues.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement and would recommend a placement at Unilever to all students. There is such a wide variety of opportunities available within different functions and you get real business experience and lots of responsibility. There is such a large community of future career employees which means there are other students to support you and make friends with. I have made some lovely friends as a result of working at Unilever.
Yes
Do your research on the company. Compile a list of STAR examples where you have shown certain competencies. But most of all BE YOURSELF. Unilever will love to see your personality and what you are really like. Don't try and be someone that you are not just to impress, stick to your authentic self and this will be appreciated.
