    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • On a day to day basis I support the manufacture of a range of Power Generator sets down the production line. This includes creating process documents using CAD to instruct the operators how to manufacture the sets, documenting and resolving any build issues and attending design review meetings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • During my placement I have developed skills that I had learnt at university. For example, I have extensively used my knowledge of CAD from university and using this on a regular basis I have been able to develop this. I have also been able to develop many critical skills needing in industry such as communication and management. I have also developed new skills on common industry software's such as Oracle and Ease works.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • During my placement I was given a large amount of responsibility. As soon as I joined I was involved heavily in many key projects and assigned key tasks that were crucial to successfully completing the projects. Throughout the year I was given many opportunities by my coordinator to take the lead and present in important meetings with key stakeholders.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • During the placement I was given a large amount of support and guidance. I regularly had one to one meetings with my manger to discuss any work or non related concerns. I also had quarterly reviews where I would be able to discuss my progress and voice areas which I required more support in. I really felt welcomed by the larger team and felt extremely comfortable working alongside them.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere in the company is relaxed and friendly. Everyone within the office is willing to help or point you in the direction to get your answers. The were many opportunities throughout the year to work with various teams and as a result I was able to build up a friendly and good working relationship with them.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and could not recommend it enough. I gained invaluable industry knowledge that is not possible to gain from University. I felt like I was part of the team as a full time colleague and given a large amount of responsibility early on which allowed me to quickly develop my understanding of the industry and the company.
