Overview
As my time at work has gone on I've been given more responsibilities. At the beginning i was tasked with writing minutes and updating reports. Now in the final months, i have my own project were I am managing a refurbishment of an office building with the project being worth £2 mil. As a consultant, my main day-to-day actives include stakeholder management, programme management, cost management, and change control.
Skills
I both developed both old and new skills during my placement. These include presenting, charing meetings, and stakeholder management including working around the office politics that is inevitable in the client's offices. Program management and cost management.
Responsibilities
Yes, I have been given a lot of responsibilities. More than I was expecting to be honest. But none I feel are out of my realm of control. I've been pushing myself but not feeling overstretched.
Support & Guidance
Lots I had a line manager that was very helpful in teaching me the way that the industry operates. Really helping me develop my soft skills.
Culture
The company culture was very good. There are lots activities planned throughout the year from Polo, Christmas dinner, and grad nights out. This helps someone new to the company fit in and find friends.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed my placement. The only thing that I believe put a damper on it was the extortionate price of London living. But thats out of my control.
Yes
My advice would be to have your CV and applications looked over by the UNI careers counselor. They really helped me refine my applications. In the interview just be yourself, interviewers can see through the wall put up in front of them. And lastly, apply early to multiple opportunities. I did this and was presented with 3 offers which gave me flexibility with locations to live and different industry sectors.
