Overview
My role largely comprised of measuring traffic on the website and identifying trends, peaks, troughs and anomalies in the different journeys. Alongside this I would breakdown customer feedback and listen to calls to make sure our software was working adequately. Working with UI/UX designers meant a lot of AdHoc (unexpected) jobs appearing daily these involve implementing new features on the website and helping around the team. Liaising between developers and suppliers was also required.
Skills
Loads of skills have been developed such as communication, organisation, time management, analytical skills, presentation skills, Excel. New skills have been learnt such as Adobe Analytics, PowerBi, Infinity call listening software.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility within my internship which I was very grateful for and it required me to work with many different stakeholders and lead on projects which I was also able to present on. However, expressed to myself repeatedly by my manager that this was due to hard work and showing commitment and capability, it won't just be given to you it is earnt.
Support & Guidance
I received support whenever I needed it and my team were great at helping me in many areas of my work and I wouldn't have been able to achieve a lot of things without their help. There was some training that could have been more thorough and some training I wanted out of the placement I wasn't given. But in general the team and the scheme leaders were great and provided huge support.
Culture
The general culture is very lovely and cheery. Lots of friendly faces and approachable people. However, due to the remote/hybrid nature socially it wasn't what I expected and the team was very sparsely populated meaning face-to-face time is limited however if the interns group together there would be a great team spirit even without their physical day-to-day team. It depends what your preference is though as remote working provides great flexibility.
Your Impressions
I had a very impactful year which has put me in a fantastic position for when I finish University. I have enjoyed my year and learnt many valuable lessons and pushed myself to become a better person which will serve me well at University. If you are wanting pure fun then stay at University but that's not what this is about and this year has been very enjoyable getting to work with many people.
Yes
Understand the company then position yourself accordingly. Write thorough questions and answer them tailoring each response to the company and the role you want. This should avoid stumbling and freezing in interviews and should help get you through the first door. Go for it but make sure to put everything in it and you will get out what you put in.
