  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My main responsibilities include: - Update standard IBM tools with required inputs to support the wider business. - Become the subject matter authority in those tools to help assist with day to day management. - Create innovative ways to present data and solve business challenges. - Understanding where within the business the reports fit in, constantly challenging and improving their practical application as part of the team. - Help equip and support sellers in simplifying processes to deliver outcomes.

  • During my placement year at IBM as a university student in the UK, I have had the opportunity to learn and develop a variety of skills. Here are some examples: - Technical Skills: Working at IBM, I have gained proficiency in various technical skills depending on the nature of my role and projects. This included , database management, data analysis, and cybersecurity. - Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: IBM fosters a culture of innovation and problem-solving. Through my work, I have honed my ability to identify and analyze complex problems, think critically, and propose effective solutions. This involves understanding business requirements, conducting research, and applying logical reasoning to arrive at the best possible outcomes. - Collaboration and Teamwork: IBM places a strong emphasis on teamwork and collaboration. I have had the opportunity to work with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, both within my team and across different departments. Through team projects and collaborations, I have learned how to communicate effectively, contribute my ideas, and work together to achieve common goals.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • As the cybersecurity sector was going through a transition during my placement year at IBM, I found myself in a position of increased responsibility and knowledge to support partners in their cybersecurity deals. This transition presented a unique opportunity for me to learn and grow in the field while contributing to the success of the organization and its clients. This internal merge allowed me to gain a massive increase in responsibility and a key supporting figure to the business.

  • Although my handover period was short and basic, I was fortunate to have the support and guidance of numerous mentors throughout my placement year at IBM. These mentors played a crucial role in helping me navigate the organization, understand my responsibilities, and develop professionally. Their support was invaluable, and I felt a strong sense of community and collaboration everywhere I went.
