Overview
PMO on an NHS project - on a day to day basis I attend certain daily meetings e.g two daily standups, some meetings on a weekly basis e.g. project delivery status and timesheet review, and complete certain structured tasks such as onboarding of new starters to the project, offboarding leavers, data security and privacy controls, and account comms, as well as handling ad-hoc requests and responsibilities
Skills
I've developed a vast range of new skills from my time at IBM, such as learning to work with agile practices, excel skills, presentation and communication skills, I've learnt industry specific knowledge about healthcare, I have developed my teamwork skills, and learnt to use many tools such as mural, confluence, jira and more.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility in my internship due to being in a billable client facing role
Support & Guidance
Support was available to me where needed however I would have to reach out for it rather than be given it while being set tasks. It took me some time to be comfortable asking my managers all my questions
Culture
The company culture at IBM is great! A big emphasis is placed on its people and on my project we had a people champion and a squad dedicating to ensuring team members' wellbeing. IBM as a whole has a culture of nurturing its staff in personal and proffessional development, and recognising achievement as much as possible, as well as running team days and many events outside of your day to day job to get involved with.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship with IBM
Yes
Keep an open mind about job roles as there is a massive range, many of which you may have never heard of before. The success of your placement is up to you - you have to go out and find the opportunities you want to get involved with within the company if you want to make the most of your time.
