    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work as a PMO analyst and this involved setting up meetings, drafting up plans, taking minutes, managing commercial and budgets. The role also included helping other team members to prepare for bids, tracking contractural obligations and carrying out pre-contract work.

  • I have definitely become alot more confident and learned to step out of my comfort zone. Additionally I have developed my Excel skills further and taken on more leadership roles. Through carrying out learnings I have also been able to deepen my technical knowledge.

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes I was given alot more respnsibility than I expected, this was particularly shown in me having ownership over processes where I had to manage large amounts of budget.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received alot of guidance and support during my placement year. I received one to one meetings with my task manager to check in on how I was doing and goals I had for myself. I was involved in a mentorship scheme to assist with shaping my future career and overall my managers and other IBMers were readily available to provide support when I needed it.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture at IBM stood out to me alot, everyone encorages you to push yourself out of your comfort zone and better yourself further. Everyone is open and has a willingless to help you but also do not make you feel less than especially considering that as placement students we are not as senior.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement to a large extent and it has truly made me feel excited and prepared for the working world post uni. At times it was hard, sometimes having to work longer hours but the hard work paid off and this was rewarding. Overall it was an extremely rewarding and enjoyable experience.

  • My advice that I would give to others applying to IBM is to ensure you have a passion for being apart of transformation and constant growth as that is a big part of IBM.
