Overview
In the private client team, I assisted in the completion of tax returns for high net worth individuals and I had the opportunity to contribute to advice pieces. In the corporate tax team, I assisted in the completion of tax returns for large corporations, and I had the opportunity to work with some of the specialist teams, including the renewables and sustainability team and the tax technology team.
Skills
I have learned how to use the tax computation applications in a short period of time, as well as having the opportunity to develop my excel skills to a high level. Whilst helping out with the Tax Technology team, I was able to work towards certifications in Power BI and Alteryx. I have also developed my organisation and time management skills as I had to meet tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
From the beginning of my placement, I was given billable client work. Although I needed a lot of help at the start, the more I did, the easier it got and my level of responsibility increased. I had to opportunity to complete work which would originally be given to colleagues higher above me while they were away. Even though some of this work was difficult, managers were always happy to help me out.
Support & Guidance
During my placement, as well as a line manager, I had a buddy and a sponsor. I feel that I received a lot of support from all three people, as well as from my other colleagues. Everyone was always happy to help me with work when I was stuck and they were always happy to listen and help me when I had any problems.
Culture

Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement at RSM. Not only were both of my teams really welcoming and kind, but I also enjoyed the work that I did. Although sometimes the level of work can be quite sparse, I felt that I really understood it and there were many opportunities to develop my skillset through different training courses.
