Overview
Supporting the Production team at Campact, getting involved with projects as well as the maintenance of the Plant. This involves working with the team on engineering related tasks as well as Enviromental and Safety related tasks. Therefore, the nature of some work was organisational and other work investigative.
Skills
I have learnt and gained experience using lots of different process related software, additionally gaining lots of excel and VBA coding skills. Generally, just the experience of being on a chemical site has helped me develop knowledge and firsthand experience around the chemical industry. For organization and communication skills, this experience has expanded my skills further. Even with simple things like calling people straight after sending them an email to encourage them to reply.
Responsibilities
I would say I was given the perfect level of responsibility throughout the year at Campact. With my responsibilities and crucial involvement growing as the placement went on. Meaning as I got to know the plant and team more, my involvement grew at a comfortable level, as I became more knowledgeable about the plant.
Support & Guidance
Campact has a good team of different disciplines (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical) so there are always lots of people to turn to, for support and guidance, whom have lots of experience and knowledge. Also, there are other placement students there from other disciplines which is a nice support network additionally. I'd say generally there's a very supportive environment built on supporting others.
Culture
Amazing, I hope that every workplace I enter is like this. Everyone is friendly and have good humour. Campact is a stress-free environment where students aren't overwhelmed with work (a nice change from university). Campact is a small team so it's easy to build good relations with people.
Your Impressions
Loved it, don't want to return to university! I would say my enjoyment has increased as my time here has gone on. I feel like I know the plant inside out and I've loved learning about how everything works and the experience of being involved with the team.
Yes
Just get involved as much as you can, the more you put in, the more you get out. At the start it can seem like you don't have a lot to do but it takes time to learn about the process and gain knowledge about what work you can do and what you can help with. For some people the relaxed environment can unfortunately cause laziness, however if you are well driven you can get alot out of the experience.
