Overview
VAT- prepared VAT Returns, managed client communication; prepared advisory deliverables for clients; researched and summarised legislations; assisted in client take on procedures; attended client meetings and took notes; took on business development work CT- Prepared CT computations; completed benchmarking studies; researched legal documentation requirements; prepared various reports and documents; attended client meetings and took notes; managed an internal project
Skills
Working with both the VAT and CT team, I developed numerous skills such as Excel/Word/Power Point, upward management, professional writing and client communication, research, time management and report writing. I also learned how to use multiple internal softwares.
Responsibilities
I was given more responsibilities then expected. I also had a lot more client interaction then anticipated. However, as everything was reviewed by more senior colleagues, I did not feel pressure or anxiety about my work and it was a great learning experience.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support in both teams. Both my line managers were great and I felt that I could confined in them for both work and non-work related matters. In terms of work, everyone was very understanding of the fact that I am learning and were really responsive to all of my questions. They also explained concepts while helping me so that I learn more of the technical side of the taxes. Most of the support have come from the more experienced assistants and associates, however partners, directors and associate directors also took time to explain my queries.
Culture
The culture is great. Everyone is very nice and social, so I felt like I am part of the team from the first day. There are also a lot of socials, which helps with getting to know more people from the team.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement a lot. I feel like it was a great opportunity for me and really helped me decide on my career path. I would really recommend it to future placement students.
