Overview
Your role in the business will vary a lot during the placement year so it's difficult to sum up a 'day to day'. During your store time (about half of your placement), you will train as a store assistant and carry out all store assistant duties such as tills and working stock. During your store management, you will be acting assistant store manager of your store responsible for delivering on KPIs, ordering and leading your team to name a few
Skills
My time management skills have improved a lot! Aldi is a very efficient cost-driven business and time is of the essence. During the placement, you will realise how much work can be done in just 1 day and develop your time management. Also, having a lot of exposure to many different leadership styles has allowed me to develop my leadership and people skills
Responsibilities
When in store, you will have a lot of responsibility and you will be graded over a 4 week period on your performance and leadership.
Support & Guidance
You are assigned a mentor to provide support before you've even had your first day. You will also start at the same time as other placement students who you can reach out to for support
Culture
Aldi is a German company with a culture that is reflective of such. The people at Aldi are passionate about the business and work hard to achieve great results. The atmosphere is very professional and there are clear boundaries.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement year at Aldi, it is tough but it builds resilience.
Yes
Aldi is not for everyone. Ensure that the business is right for you and be prepared to work harder then you ever have before. The pay is great and attracts many people to the role but the pay is well earnt. In return for your hard work, you receive great future prospects, investment into your development and exposure to a multi-million pound business. Aldi looks for very specific qualities in candidates so do not be disappointed if you are unsuccessful.
