Overview
Day to day varied greatly as it depended on the project or initiative that me and my manager were working on at the time. The work spanned from carrying out research, creating slides used for presentations, excel work, internal support including website design and comms.
Skills
The most important skills I believe I have learnt or developed have been around organising my day and managing my time more effectively due to the time horizons and accountability to the tasks given. As well as this, the ability to adapt quickly to new and different tasks and also communicate well with others in a team is something much more important in the workplace.
Responsibilities
Despite a lack of client responsibility, internal responsibilities were widely available and encouraged. For example, mid way through my placement I was placed in charge of a group of interns responsible for restructuring and redesigning the website.
Support & Guidance
Help was always readily available from both your line and foundation managers who both played supporting roles in ensuring you were enjoying your year.
Culture
To me, IBM's atmosphere felt very friendly and diverse. There is a strong emphasis on creative thinking, strong team building methodologies and work life balance.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed my time at IBM and believe the experience is very much up to you what you make of it. It is a large firm with many opportunities across different skillsets, sectors and interests.
