Overview
Whilst working within the Cash & Bank team day to day tasks will involve; online banking reports, bank reconciliations, invoice processing, preparing financial graphs/charts and supplier statement reconciliations. Also, banking and allocating cheques twice a week. In the accounts team, regular tasks include balance sheet reconciliations, preparing a balance sheet summary, journal postings, as well as any projects, such as clearing up accounts.
Skills
My accounting knowledge has developed significantly as a result of the placement, as well as my IT skills and use of accounting software. I have also significantly improved my analytical and problem solving skills. Finally, i have developed many soft skills, such as team working, communication and organisational skills.
Responsibilities
Yes, especially in the accounts team. Reconciliations would be need to be completed before a deadline and a balance sheet summary would be prepared to support senior accountants in their decision making. Similarly, in the cash and bank team a bank reconciliation would need to be completed for the end of every month and i was responsible for preparing a variety of different performance indicating graphs, which would be presented to collogues from around the company.
Support & Guidance
I received constant support from my line managers and fellow colleagues, who were always on hand to help and I always felt comfortable asking questions or for help. Weekly progress meetings were also held to catch up with my manager and highlight any concerns.
Culture
Volvo group UK is a friendly and happy place to work. Everyone is made welcome and team building activities often take place.
