Overview
I help the team complete workpapers and test whether the clients numbers are correct. I am also expected to summarise minutes of all client meetings that are held. I perform testing procedures, walkthroughs of client procedures, format workpapers etc.
Skills
I have learnt many new skills, in busy season I was able to learn how to manage my time well. I have been able to work as a team better and engage with the client. I have also improve my accounting skills in general as completed 2 of my chartered accountancy exams.
Responsibilities
Yes I was given a lot of responsibility to discuss updates back and forth with the client and have completed a lot of entire workpapers myself.
Support & Guidance
A lot of the training was on-the-job and I was thrown into the deep end but if I needed support I felt comfortable asking.
Culture
It is intense at times but everyone is friendly, there is a culture of staying quite later though, even outside of the busy season. I sometimes feel guilty logging off at 5.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my placement and have made a lot of friends, it has been demanding at times but I have been able to develop lots of useful skills.
Yes
It is intense but you learn so much and it is great experience, you get so much knowledge and the team is really supportive and helpful.
