    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The Production Management Team liaises with third party production companies to assist them in creating Disney+ original series. This was a very admin heavy job, which involved managing the team diary, updating production trackers and access distribution lists, filing paperwork and attending production meetings. (Just a note: this role has nothing to do with Project Management, there wasn't a suitable category)

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Networking is a very important skill in the Film and TV industry, which I think working at Disney really helped my confidence in. The skills are very transferrable into pretty much any admin role but my understanding of production has expanded massively. The Disney Intern Development Programme is a certification taken by all interns that focuses on all kinds of general professional skills such as time management and presentation.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Even though your title is intern, your responsibilities are very much at an assistant level. As a production intern, I was given access to confidential scripts and cuts, which means I was as responsible as every other member of my team for maintaining their access. Once I became more settled into my role, I would mostly work independently unless I asked for help.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My whole team was hugely invested in my personal goals and development, and they were always really encouraging of pursuing every opportunity available. They helped to organise set visits and additional work experiences opportunities for me, which has broadened the range of skills I am able to put on my CV. I truly could not be more grateful for all the support I received throughout the year, and even after I left.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone I met were all such lovely people and there are loads of social events where you can network and get to know everyone. It was difficult at times as they announced widespread layoffs later during my placement which affected the mood a little, and I do think the company could be a bit more collaborative as some teams seemed to be disconnected in sharing information at times.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed myself throughout my placement. I have found my role to be really interesting, while still having the liberty to explore what other departments do. I've enjoyed getting to know my team and all the events that I've attended. There have been moments where I've struggled, but that is to be expected while developing at the rate you are working at.

  • 7. Would you recommend The Walt Disney Company to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to The Walt Disney Company
  • I would advise applicants to be as proactive as possible - while my team were helpful in finding opportunities for me, ultimately you have to make your internship fit you. If there is a goal you want to meet, you have to take initiative in communicating that to your manager and make it possible for yourself. Explore things outside of your role and just get as involved with as much as you can.
