Overview
General office admin including booking meeting spaces, preparing for new starters. Managing team and directors diary, booking meetings. Arranging international travel through SAP concur, managing team expenses. Liaising between all sections of the company including content and physical security. Taking minutes during meetings, preparing them and sharing out agenda points to wider invitees. Adhoc work for line manager including pulling together new documents, creating and retaining brand and vendor connections. Every day is slightly different.
Skills
I have developed interpersonal skills, working with executives, directors and VPs i have learnt how to carry myself in a professional manner which is a necessary skill for the corporate offices. I have been trained on and use daily new systems including PIX, Box, Scenecronize - industry standard software that will prove beneficial everyday of my future working life. Working on company wide projects i have learnt a clear communication style which has been pointed out to me on many occasions.
Responsibilities
Responsibility is key for all the Disney internships, you're not there to get coffees, you're doing a full time job. For my specific role, i have been awarded responsibility of the corporate credit card and booking international travel, then managing these expenses on the back end using SAP Concur. I also am expected to communicate with external companies / vendors in a formal and accurate manner who are necessary for my team to function.
Support & Guidance
My line manager checks in on my task list, but i have found the other members of my team to take a more personal approach in support / guidance throughout my internship. They ensure that i am coping well with my workload and are always open for questions and advice. They have taught me so much about the industry that i otherwise wouldn't have learnt at university. Disney is supportive of communication and learning, allowing me to shadow other teams.
Culture
Within my team the culture was welcoming and fun, and you were encouraged to be yourself. Wider company culture can vary, fellow interns have had more of a cold micro managing experience - depend on your team and line of work. My team was very supportive and even helped me to find future work opportunities, with other companies and also through their contacts. Disney as a brand is very encouraging and welcoming, hosting many events, theme depending on the month.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship, theres an intern culture of collaboration, you meet so many wonderful people. I am grateful for the experience and if you are given the opportunity i highly encourage you to do so. Disney will always be great experience to have on your CV, especially as a student or post grad. There are many fun social activities put on by Disney including movie screenings in the cinema, cooking classes, yoga etc.
Yes
Application wise i would encourage you to make your CV clear but also personal, they want to hire people that will bring something to their teams. Make yourself set apart from other applications. list any systems and languages you are proficient in - Disney is a global company and all those skills will provided great ground to hire you. In an interview be prepared with the latest Disney news - impress them with your knowledge - do your research.
