Overview
I work as part of the Global Learning Team and my role involves working with several stakeholders in order to manage the way learning content is created so that the User experience is seamless on our learning platforms. I also do a lot of work back-end work to ensure that our skills taxonomy remains up-to-date.
Skills
Definitely! Through my role, I've improved upon my verbal and written communication skills through my monthly presentations and creating multiple comms pieces, as well as my interpersonal skills, my curiosity, my ability to pay attention to detail, using Microsoft Excel, and prioritisation. I have also learnt skills such as data-driven decision making, agile delivery and have learnt to think of the consumers first.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given quite a bit of responsibility from the start. The functioning of vital tools relied on the work I did, and I managed quite a number of essential systems and licenses to learning.
Support & Guidance
I received a decent amount of support, however, there were moments I felt I could use a bit more guidance navigating the corporate environment or fully understanding the work I was doing, so it was definitely challenging to feel fully settled over the course of the year.
Culture
The company values and prioritises your wellbeing which is great. People are generally nice and willing to help. I would say that it is however, quite fast-paced, so generally, everyone is busy, and might not have the time to focus on your needs, and so you are expected to be self-sufficient, curious and resourceful to be able to find what you need with the tools you've got. I also found that you couldn't really wait to fully understand a task before you get started, but you're still expected to perform well, and this can be quite pressurising. It's also such an agile environment, so something you might've begun working on can change the next day.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it mainly because I learnt so much and I was very stretched in terms of what was expected of me, however, I did find it quite challenging and overwhelming.
Yes
To make sure they are curious, resourceful, can work in fast-paced environments, and can easily adapt to changing situations
