Overview
My role sits within the Softlines commercial team working on apparel. My team manages relationships with licensees that sell into retailers. My role would involve regularly updating contracts, pitching new releases, presenting franchise updates and trend research.
Skills
I have improved hard skills such as Excel, Keynote and photoshop. One of the biggest skills I've developed is presenting as this is something I did frequently whether on Teams or in conference rooms. Professional communication is also something I've learnt
Responsibilities
It was made clear to me that the level of responsibility I wanted to take on was up to me so I gradually gained more responsibility throughout the year as I became more confident.
Support & Guidance
I had weekly 1-1's with my line manager where we could discuss to-do lists but also my growth and development
Culture
Overall it is good. Disney is a massive company so I found the social aspect to not be great. A lot of my friends who interned at other companies described afterwork drinks, nights out, team building days etc which I didn't see at Disney. Overall the atmosphere is good.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement. I've made great friends and amazing industry connections. I feel so much more prepared for industry before and have gained a newfound confidence in my abilities.
Yes
Personality and creativity is so important. If you love the brand let that shine through as franchise knowledge makes you so much better at your job
