Overview
In my day-to-day, I attend to various different wholesale service applications, monitoring their processes and data consumption to ensure all are BAU, as well as attending to user queries via requests and change implementations.
Skills
I have enhanced my Unix capabilities. Furthermore, while the domain of the role is entirely learnt on context and experience, my problem-solving skills have been refined to industry level, surpassing my previous academic capacity. This role also necessitates communication - whether between my team, other internal teams, or external vendors. My confidence through either verbal or written reasoning, explanation and articulation has increased exponentially.
Responsibilities
The role came with a lot of responsibility. Once initiated and familiarised with the team and applications, I performed the same duties as my team members and handled their tasks as my manager saw fit. There was support given, so I was comfortable enough to take on the different tasks and my repetitive ones, eventually carving myself a network and assurance in my activities.
Support & Guidance
Throughout the placement I felt very supported by the open culture the organisation hosts. I had many people that I could lean on for support throughout the various facets of corporate working. My manager and my team were helpful with learning the ropes of my role, but I was also assigned a mentor to initiate the first step of getting to know others outside my team. HR were also very approachable, and helped tie the placement cohort together well.
Culture
The culture was very friendly. It was not difficult to approach different teams and get to know the wider network of the bank.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement a lot. I would recommend the bank for students looking for placements. The bank had a really encouraging and nurturing working environment, and the employees were all similarly supportive and happy to treat placement students as any other employee - available and happy to take questions.
Yes
If you are happy to be learning and trying new things, as well as open to different social ventures, Nomura is the place for you. The bank supports your continued learning.
