The Role
Really enjoyable year - exciting and challenging work which confirmed my current career choice of working in the pharmaceutical industry
everyone I worked with was very nice and willing to answer any questions/worries I had. Treated as an equal to everyone else
Both my supervisors were brilliant and really gave me all the support I needed to carry out my project. Supported me both with my project and personally throughout the year
this vaaried quite a lot, particularily as there was a departmental change which meant there was some downtime with my project. Most weeks consist of a good balance of office/lab work, but there can be espcially busy lab periods followed by more offuce downtime to allow you to work on your experimental write ups. How busy you are is really left down you how you plan your week yourself
I felt I was given a lot of responsibility which I enjoyed as it helped build up confidence in my lab work and how I planned my experiments
The skills I have learnt have been invaluable and will really give me a huge advantage to my peers who did not do a placement, especially when it comes to completing my final year research project
The Company
very laid back, which was good considering it was a very big office (aorund 60 people)
GSK had organised their side of the placement very well, however there appeared to be a lack of communication between them and the recruitment agency who handled all out pay/holidays
There was an IP student career path day which allowed us to see what careers where availble to us throughout GSK. A number of lectures/seminars we could attend. Not a huge amount of IP only dedicated training
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Given fast track applications for GSK graduate schemes
The Culture
I commuted to work so did not get to socialise very often with other IPs outside work but those who lived near the site socialised regularily
N/A
Did not experience myself but was told it was not very good - however London is very close by train
No real company organised activites outside work
