Overview
My team is responsible for managing, improving and operating the following processes: - Change Management, Incident Management, Problem Management, Capacity Management, Configuration Management, IT Disaster Recovery and IT Risk Control. On a day-to-day basis I am fully involved as someone from the team and not just as an intern. They have trained me on everything they do and I am now involved with all the processes mentioned above, doing tasks and projects in all of these. This involves for example chairing global meetings with Vice Presidents and Executive Directors on it.
Skills
I have gained a lot of confidence in myself and in what I am capable of. When I first joined I was given a session on “imposter syndrome” which is something all interns felt once we first joined the company, we were then told that we were chosen for a reason and therefore there is no point in feeling like we don’t belong. With the months going by I feel more that I belong and that I deserved to be here as I started to understand what my team does and started to take charge in a few things
Responsibilities
Yes absolutely, this is something I am really benefiting from is that I am treated as a part of the team and not just as an intern. I got trained on everything they do and once I knew what I was doing and they were confident that I was capable I was then assigned the same tasks as the rest of the team.
Support & Guidance
I got given a lot of guidance and support throughout the placement - all interns get a assigned a buddy (a buddy is someone that is supposed to help us integrate and be there whenever we need help with something even not work related) and a mentor (same as a buddy - the main difference is that a mentor is supposed to guide us more career wise). Also from my team I have had a lot of guidance they have helped me to grow so much through this year.
Culture
The company's culture is unbelievably amazing - they have societies and clubs such as "Public speaking club" and "football club", they have diversity and inclusion networks such as "Life & Families" to promote a culture of good health, wellbeing and work-life balance and drive personal and professional growth. There are also loads of social events such as the terrace drinks on a Thursday on the 6th floor of the building.
Your Impressions
So far it has been an amazing experience and I have learned a lot already. I am really happy that I got this placement and this team. It could not have gone any better and it would be a huge accomplishment to get an offer to come back after I graduate.
Yes
I would say just be honest at the interviews and assessment center stages, let them get to know you and ask questions.
