Overview
On a day to day basis you will be expected to deliver a variety of vehicles and collect vehicles on the road. Serve corporate, insurance and retail customers into rental vehicles. Answer the telephones to both check people into future bookings and to attend to any queries that they might have. 3 stages of training are expected to be completed throughout the process and regularly checked by managers. Towards the end of the placement you will be expected to start running the branch.
Skills
Yes there is a variety of skills that I have learnt and improved. Some of the main ones that I feel have been used is teamwork which will be used on a day to day basis in the team at your branch. Communication throughout with customers which has been both challenging and rewarding at times. Logistics, once you start running the branch it is fun as it becomes more challenging but also helps you to develop more skills.
Responsibilities
Yes, you are given a lot of responsibility once that you have learnt the basic skills that are required on a day to day basis. Some of the responsibilities that you might come across throughout the placement is running the branch, answering the telephone, driving cars around, serving customers and so much more. While I’m the placement it is nice to have these responsibilities as it does allow you to grow and take on a bigger role within the branch over time.
Support & Guidance
While on the placement you have both a line manager and also an area manager. This is two points of contact while on the placement and both are very approachable and willing to help with any questions or issues that you might have. They also support you throughout the day with training and becoming a better manager so that you can start running the branch and really honing the skills of management when you eventually get promoted.
Culture
Very hard working, they do expect you to stay later sometimes to complete deliveries and collections. However they do reward hard work so by doing this you do gain benefits from the company. The team is relatively young at most branches which is something that I really benefited from and enjoyed. Everyone is lovely and is willing to speak and help each other and it does feel like you have a team at every branch I have worked at.
Your Impressions
I did enjoy my placement year as it provided me with many skills that I didn’t have before and I do feel like I have grown since finishing my placement. There were times it was challenging with the long hours of working, especially in the winter when it is dark. I really enjoyed my team that I was with, I got on very well with all of them and say to day we helped each other out.
No
If you are looking for quality experience in an office I don’t believe enterprise is the right placement for you. As quite often you are expected to be driving and doing various other tasks. However if you do like a balance throughout the day and are happy to be driving a lot then this placement is for you. While on the placement you will also develop a lot of people skills and communication which other placements cannot offer you.
