Responsibilities
Yes I was surprised with the amount of responsibility given to placement students here. We are fully trusted to contribute to code repositories and pushing to production environments. It’s scary at first but you get supported throughout the process
Support & Guidance
Amazing support structure here you’ll be given a buddy and mentor who are there to support you in you’re personal and professional life. Huge emphasis on supporting early careers placements both in team and from your manager.
Culture
More relaxed than I thought, there’s a huge emphasis on supporting individuals and making sure to look after your physical and mental health. There can be quite a lot of meetings and admin but most of this is covered by those of higher level.
Your Impressions
My placement has been fantastic and I’m so glad I decided to choose Capital One. It has been a far better experience than university. I’ve learnt more here in my first year than I have during academia and met some truly fantastic people.
Yes
Try to develop something in your spare time since it shows you have a passion for programming. Also be prepared to be social, there are some amazing people here who are definitely worth getting to know.
