Overview
Each day was different, and at each placement, I would be in a new department. Some days I was editing the golf. Some days I would be logging shows from the 90s, and some days I would be reading scripts and giving my thoughts on whether or not they would make a good show.
Skills
I have learned many new skills in the film, TV, and news spheres. I have a realistic idea of how a show or film would go through its entire creation and the number of people it takes to get there. Being in a constantly collaborative environment has massively improved my general confidence and my ability to speak to people.
Responsibilities
I was given different amounts of responsibility. It wouldn't be uncommon for me to just sit and listen for a week rather than do work, but at the same time, this helped with general growth and meant that the next week I could input something useful. On the other hand, I was tasked with editing the golf, and I have a lot of editing experience, which helped. The golf would then be broadcast live on TV.
Support & Guidance
Every team and department I worked in generously gave me so much of their time to walk through tasks with me and answer any questions I had.
Culture
Everyone I met through the company was incredibly welcoming and friendly, took into account that it was my first year in this industry, and accommodated me to that level.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my traineeship and thought it was an incredible opportunity. I learnt so much about the field I want to go into and the many different pathways to get there.
