Overview
To carry out all general procurement tasks. Follow each stage of the buying process: quoting, negotiation, buying, tracking till arrival. Internal tasks such as providing updates in team meeting, updating and maintain order trackers for team awareness & collaborating with other function teams to support understanding throughout.
Skills
The biggest skill developed is communications, especially in a professional manor. This is due to the emails, telephone calls, online team meetings, in which you have to quickly learn to utilize effectively in order to carry out responsibilities. Use of Microsoft office has hugely developed as it is used everyday. Ability to read engineering drawings has developed as the position requires you to withdraw relevant information from them. Problem solving and decision making also developed.
Responsibilities
Huge responsibility is placed upon the student. It is almost as if you learn by doing on the job. Big tasks can include huge involvement from placements.
Support & Guidance
Initially support was not great due to supervisor being located in the US so contact time was limited. However, once this changed my levels of support from manager and core team have been brilliant. Everyone has made time to help me out.
Culture
The company culture is one of acceptance and collaboration. Everyone brings value and fits into the picture at some point regardless of their background, which is perfect for a student when joining a corporate business and trying to fit in.
Your Impressions
Hugely enjoyed the placement and cannot recommend it enough
Yes
Be yourself. Be polite and attentive. No one is expecting the next student placement to be a genius ready to take over the company, show willing to learn and put the effort in and it will be recognised.
