Overview
MBDA has a dynamic working scheme - we are able to set our own hours as long we don't miss meetings or deadlines etc. and average on 37 hours a week For me this was working roughly 08:15 - 17:00ish Mon - Thurs and 08:15-14:30ish on Fri with 30min lunch breaks and the odd coffee break here and there :)
Skills
I've had a good mix of technical and documentation work which has given me a good understanding of work done in the department and how it is used in the wider company. I was able to get stuck in early on and give you leeway to work on things that interest you, which allows you to develop your skills in a way that suits you
Responsibilities
They get you stuck into the work as soon as possible and give you more responsibility as you learn how to do new things. This meant that you know the work you're doing is really valued and it felt like you were making important contributions to the company.
Support & Guidance
Everyone on MBDA's early careers program is assigned a technical coordinator who is your 'go-to' point in terms of your placement. Mine was fab, I always felt comfortable going to them with any issues I had - whether that be admin, pastoral or work related. We were also given a buddy who was a current graduate, where we could go to for any questions before the placement started - this was fab for any 'silly' questions!
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere was great. Everyone was really friendly and always willing to give you time out of their day to answer questions or have a chat, no matter how high up in the company they are. Everyone is so keen to share their knowledge and there's a real feeling of everyone just wants each other to do well.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed it and hope to go back in the future
Yes
Just be open minded with a willingness to try new things! They don't necessarily expect you to have the specific skills required for the job as these are so niche and industry specific. These skills come from experience and as long as you show a keen interest in the work you're doing and are eager to ask questions and learn, you'll do really well at the company.
