Overview
My role entails working as a mechanical engineer inside of a project development team. On a day to day task this can include team meetings, CAD design, analysis work, lab testing and ordering of parts from external suppliers. Responsibilities include opportunity to own your own parts you are developing.
Skills
There is a large development focus. I have had the opportunity to develop lots of the skills I developed at university as well develop new skills by being exposed to things that are not covered at university.
Responsibilities
I was surprised by the level of responsibility I was given. After completing a couple of weeks of training I was working on real life work that will go into production products. I was given the opportunity to be responsible for my own designs and there development.
Support & Guidance
There was a great deal of support and guidance during my placement. My "technical coordinator was very engaged and often organised meetings with key figures to introduce themselves to early careers employees. Outside of the formal support network, every member of staff I engaged with was keen to provide support and guidance to me during my placement.
Culture
The company has a forward thinking culture, with lots of support for dynamic work. However, the increase of dynamic work has made the team work culture decline.
Your Impressions
My placement was very enjoyable. I enjoyed the varied work in two separate 5 month placements and I enjoyed the responsibility offered early on.
