Overview
I was introduced to multiple data bases used within the company that would enable me to analyse the brands weekly and monthly performance which I reported back to the team. I also worked with legal and scientific to update product packaging, completed instore merchandising briefs with retailers, assisted the merchandising team with creative briefs for permanent instore merchandising and planned events with multiple retailers to promote new products launching within the brand.
Skills
I developed my organisation skills and by the end of my internship learned how to prioritise multiple tasks across all the different responsibilities I had within my role, especially during busy periods. I learned how to gather and analyse data, something I had never done before and was able to confidently report this back to the team. I also learned to translate data in an effective, digestible way which could then be used in presentations to the wider business and external retail partners.
Responsibilities
yes, I was always included in all team meetings and never felt to feel like I was 'just the intern' and within a few months I became confident enough to put forward my opinion on meetings, especially with campaign ideas and creative instore merchandising. I felt very valued within my team and within the wider business and the effort I put into my job was reciprocated by my team giving me more responsibility and recognition as the year went on. The effort you put in, you definitely receive back.
Support & Guidance
I couldn't have asked for more support, I had weekly meetings with both my managers and the brand leader from the beginning to the end of my internship, and alongside this felt like I could ask them anything at any time of the day and they would support. The first 6 months was when I needed the most guidance as it was a completely new roll, but after that I still felt supported and was never scared or nervous to ask if I didn't understand anything.
Culture
Incredible- The division as a whole is so friendly and all throughout my internship I felt valued and welcomed by everyone in my direct team and wider teams. I went into the office 4 or 5 days a week as the atmosphere across all floors is so great. I also found a lot of support within the intern culture and formed friendships quite early on with all the interns in my division and other divisions. Its a very sociable company overall!
Your Impressions
I absolutely loved my internship and couldn't recommend it enough to anyone. Working for a company as big as loreal so early on in my career has been once of the best things I've ever done and has helped shape what I'd like to do after my degree.
Yes
Be yourself during the interview process, and have something that will make you stand out- it doesn't have to be something huge but something unique to you that your interviewer will be interested in (previous work experience, time abroad, charity work, side hussle, societies etc). try and be creative in your interview and think outside the box, as long as you have reasoning behind your ideas, showcase them as best as you can and let your personality shine through.
