Overview
My role has 4 key areas: - Creating partnership marketing assets for Look Fantastic & Superdrug - Producing best-in-class assets & copy for e-retailers either for new launches or the optimisation of existing products - Managing the sampling forecast to best align with the marketing plan - Keeping up to date with the general skincare landscape.
Skills
One existing 'soft' skill I developed was time management. With multiple projects always on the go, I learnt the importance of creating clear to-do lists prioritised in terms of deadline and urgency. One 'hard' skill I learnt was using Amazon Vendor Central, to upload and manage product pages, ensuring alignment with CeraVe's branding. This gave me an understanding of the ways product pages can best be structured on Amazon.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility, from a relatively early stage. For example, I managed the 2023 samples forecast which was a key driver in capturing reviews and converting people to full-size product purchases. Sampling was a big part of the brand's marketing spend so it was vital to manage it properly. While I had a lot of responsibility, I was always provided with support when needed.
Support & Guidance
I felt a good amount of support from my team. I had weekly catch ups with my line manager, and also the wider team in which I always felt comfortable with asking for help if I was struggling with something.
Culture
Very fast-paced and busy atmosphere. A lot of tasks can be assigned to you simultaneously so it's important to learn how to manage your time effectively. Can sometimes feel like you should be working over-time since many people work past 5 on a regular basis, but this is never explicitly set as an expectation. While it is very busy, everyone is really friendly so it's generally a pleasant place to work.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement since I was given a good level of responsibility, allowing me to truly develop both soft & hard skills, and get used to the corporate environment. I worked in the dermatological skincare division and while this was interesting, the strict medical-focus was sometimes creatively restrictive which makes me think I would have been better-suited in a different division.
Yes
Be prepared to be 'thrown into the deep end'. Your team will support you but you'll need to be eager to learn and willing to take on tasks that may initially be daunting.
