Overview
My role consists of understanding the hair category and supporting the team by being the eyes and the ears of the market. I produce detailed reports on multiple business areas, including competitor performance, impacts of price increases and tracking performance of new products introduced to the market. I work closely with the marketing and commercial teams to ensure that a category understanding is permeated throughout company decision making.
Skills
I have developed and strengthened numerous skills during my role. Including but not limited to, a greater understanding of corporate structure and the use of business language. A deep knowledge on multiple data processing software's. Leadership skills for the given opportunities to champion internal projects. Professional presentation skills due to responsibility to lead meetings and build relations with external retailers. All of which have contributed to building my confidence to excel post-university.
Responsibilities
The level of responsibility given as an intern at L'Oréal is ideal if you seek an internship where you will be challenged, but also have the opportunity to show-off skills learnt throughout university and the role itself. In my experience the responsibility I was given increased as my skills and knowledge of the role did. This lead to having independent projects to champion and help push major decisions for the business.
Support & Guidance
The support I was offered by L'Oréal allowed me to feel comfortable and at ease. Including when I began the role, offering multiple training and networking events so I was able to meet like-minded and interesting people. I also found that any issues that may be faced during my time in role was able to be dealt with correctly and efficiently, ranging from specific role issues to wider company questions.
Culture
The company culture at L'Oréal is very sociable and friendly, making it a lovely environment to work in. There is multiple events held by the company to ensure employees are able to celebrate success but also give the opportunity to network with others in the company. There are also great employee resource groups, which ensures inclusivity and education amongst employees, ensuring a welcoming and accepting atmosphere.
Your Impressions
My time at L'Oréal has been extremely rewarding, and has felt more than just an internship. I have been able to grow massively both my hard and soft skills, and made connections with some incredible people, and have had the opportunity to try a multitude of new things. I feel like I am contributing something bigger than myself and I am now able to take away a years worth of experience and memories.
Yes
I would advise those applying that they ensure they are authentic and confident in the interviews, with a clear passion and eagerness of wanting to make the most of their time at L'Oréal.
