    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Mechanical engineering internship which offers ample opportunity to design components for high speed, automated machines which are vital for numerous real-life projects. Additionally, there is opportunity to manage projects and gain relevant leadership competencies within an industrial engineering environment, by leading projects from initial design to final manufacture.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Management and leadership skills have been developed consistently throughout the year in industry. These skills have been strengthened by putting them to practise on a daily basis when having an overlook on multiple projects, which are related to the development of new products and processes. Technical skills, in terms of ability to use CAD in a fast and effective manor has proven useful when creating and designing new components and machine parts.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A benefit of working with BAT is that you are given complete independence with individual projects. Whenever help or assistance is required with anything within your project, there is always a colleague or manager who is available and is willing to create time for you when it is most needed. Being able to have complete overview of a project from initial stages to final development, provides me with experience in all stages of product development.

  • Fantastic. BAT are renowned for ensuring they promote and display strong diversity and inclusivity in their day to day working culture.   • It has been an incredible experience working with a great team and being involved with such a fantastic placement scheme. Being provided with numerous opportunities to develop myself and my understanding in the business has encouraged me to continue to develop myself as a professional and as in individual.

  • Be yourself, show interest in the company and their values (ethos). Show interest in the future of tobacco and new category projects and how you want to be part of the transition and what you want to achieve from working at the company.
