Overview
My role primarily focuses on managing product mailings to influencers and tracking the coverage from these mailings. I also helped in finding new influencers for us to work with on a paid partnership basis. I aided in the logistical organisation of influencer and press events. I also hosted counter appointments with influencers to increase social media coverage and raise awareness of different counters.
Skills
I believe I have most developed my team working skills as I worked incredibly closely within a team of five where we consistently worked together on different projects and kept each other updated and involved on our progress. My communication skills have also incredibly improved as I have learned how to communicate in a professional manner both with external and internal parties.
Responsibilities
I was given lots of different responsibilities during my internship, however it never felt too overwhelming and always felt manageable. As time went on in my internship the level of importance of my responsibilities grew as I was starting to develop my skills within the role and thus able to manage more difficult tasks.
Support & Guidance
I was given a large amount of support throughout my internship, particularly in the beginning each intern receives a week-long handover from the previous intern to ensure that they are prepared for the role. Throughout the placement, I always felt I could go to the managers in my team with any questions or ask them for help on tasks I found too challenging.
Culture
The company culture at L'Oreal is amazing, there is an initiative called NextGen which organizes various fun events for interns and apprentices to ensure we all are able to meet friends through the programme. Everyone at the company makes you feel welcomed and valued and the general atmosphere is really enjoyable. We have lots of talks organised about employee wellbeing and mental health :)
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at L'Oreal, I feel that the internship re-affirmed my beliefs that I would like to pursue a future career in PR. It has also taught me how to conduct myself in a professional environment and how to adjust to a corporate 9-5 work routine. I also feel I have made such a valuable network of connections, which will be incredibly useful for job opportunities after university.
Yes
I would recommend getting familiarised with what brands L'Oreal owns and which brand is within which division as it is super helpful to understand the general structure of a large corporation like L'Oreal. Also, for PR-related internships it is helpful to know who are the biggest influencers in the beauty industry so you have a vague idea on which influencers work with what brands.
