Overview
This program was 2 days and involved a combination of technical workshops and panels. There were a combination of coding workshops, debugging sessions and code review/discussions with an Amazon engineer in smaller groups. There were also panels later in the day with more employees working in a range of careers talking about their experiences in their day-to-day role, their application experience as well as their growth int he company and affinity groups.
Skills
I have gained some new knowledge in the field of algorithms- e.g. floodfill, trie data structures as well as gained knowledge of errors that could occur in code such as memory leaks and number-out-of-range errors. This complemented my current knowledge well and was the perfect level of difficulty for me.
Business Insight
It was quite interesting and I enjoyed hearing how one person can take on many roles within the company and there is a possibility to explore and grow within the company via switching teams or taking on more responsibility
Culture
Really cool to see! It was nice to see employees interacting with each other as well as see how well some of them already know each other. The talk about affinity groups and the community-feel was quite refreshing.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot! I didn't have much expectations for a virtual insight but it was extremely interactive and engaging. It was structured very well and it was the perfect level of engagement.
