The Role
I loved working in a lab and being at GSK, however not a full score as sometimes I found working in the lab by myself slightly lonely and would rather more human contact in future jobs
I really felt like I was part of the team from day 1. They were really friendly and respected my views and ideas even though I am a student, allowing me to feel I was contributing to the work
My Supervisor was excellent, she helped me every step of the way and gave me constructive guidence on the direction my work should be going
I had a project to run, but sometimes I found myself with nothing to do, just surfing the internet. Maybe I could have done more to keep myself busy
I was running my project from designing and conducting experiments to analysing the data. I felt that I was the one in charge of how the project went and I really enjoyed teh responsibility
The placement helped me massively to develope many vital skills such as experimental design and presentation skills. It also helped me develope very important people skills and time management, These skills will help me massively in my future career
The Company
The office enviroment was amazing, everyone was friendly and joked around a lot. People were always happy to have a chat and were very helpful when i needed advice
I felt that the placement was well thought through and I had a definate project to do in the year, however I had some issues with my pay and taxation which could have easily been avoided.
In my first few months, I spent several hours everyday taking part in online training or training in the lab. I felt GSK invested a lot in me
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
I would really like to come back and work for GSK in the future
The Culture
There weren't many other students at my site so although they were friendly and we went out together, the social scene was limited by the small number of students. My colleagues all lived in other towns so I rarely saw them out of work
Due to the proximity to London, the prices were all much higher then in Bristol, where I went to Uni and there weren't many cheap places to eat at
I was based in a tiny town with only a few pubs, we had to travel to have a good night out
Again, the town was tiny, I went to church but that was about it
