Overview
My role covers a wide range of areas within human resources. Being an intern, I have supported all of the TMs within my department with their various jobs. This has ranged from dealing with general HR enquiries to analysing data and advising on mental wellbeing related queries.
Skills
I have learnt a variety of hard and soft skills during my internship. The hard skills are all HR specific e.g., disciplinary and absence management procedures, whereas the soft skills are more general and encompass qualities like team work and organisation.
Responsibilities
Originally I was working on tasks under the supervision of an HR team member; however, as I progressed through my internship, I was allowed to take ownership of a variety of tasks and projects, which have been integrated throughout the office.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of different training throughout my internship, which was so incredibly important in helping me with my overall development. I was well aware that if I every needed assistance there was someone there to help, which gave me a lot of confidence to put myself out there and volunteer for a variety of projects.
Culture
Hilton's culture is incredible and was a real joy to be a part of. From day one, I could see how much it means to the company for their employees to be happy. Working within HR also opened my eyes to how much goes on behind the scenes to show appreciation to all of the TMs that work on the EMEA corporate office.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and will keep in contact with many of people that I have met along the way. I hope one day that I may be able to return to the company or work alongside it in some way.
Yes
Advice I would give to people applying to Hilton is to be authentic. It is so important to be yourself when going through the application process, so that the company is able to see what position you would best fit into.
