Overview
I was responsible for managing performance media channels for the 6 direct to consumer brands in the LUXE division. I lead in optimising and reporting on Google and Meta platforms as well as managing promotional activity on Google. I worked with stakeholders both internally (brand teams) and externally (agencies) to help drive the highest quality performance. I would also conduct weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting to provide insight with takeaways/learnings and inform future decisions.
Skills
Within my role, it was very important to develop my data analytical skills as Performance Media is very data driven. I was up-skilled from day 1 in various platforms such Google Ads, SA360 and Excel which I have further developed in my time. They have been very good in helping me throughout this process allowing me to obtain lots of new skills outside what is required for my role specifically.
Responsibilities
You have responsibility from day 1! As soon as the week long handover was done from my former intern, it was all down to me. Obviously your manager is always on hand to help if you need - but you are encouraged to have autonomy. I feel this was really good in terms of learning and understanding as if the buck stops with you, you really have to focus to make sure you get it right!
Support & Guidance
I would say this aspect if very dependent on your manager / team. For me - I had as much support as I wanted / needed. Everyone was more than happy to help me or guide me but were equally happy to listen to my ideas. I had regular daily contact with my line manager rather than organised 1:1 (as we both decided that would work better for us) as well as weekly team meetings.
Culture
Fantastic. They were always open to change / improvement and you have the ability to easily meet and connect with lots of new people. There are lots of outside work opportunities you can get involved with eg. football, running (or anything else that takes your fancy). Sounds cliché, but the sky is the limit when it comes to what you want to do - if it does not exist already, create it!
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement year here - I would strongly recommend it to anyone. Although I have not experienced what else is out there, I can confidently say that there cannot be many better placement schemes than this one. I would say, it is very fast paced with lots of challenges but I do believe this was really good for my professional growth. We also had lots of good social events :)
Yes
You need to stand out. I think if you come with a unique idea that is well informed they will like that. Eg. When it comes to creating a solution, they will want to know why you make that decision and the logic to getting there. So long as you can explain it rationally you should be fine! They are looking at the person making the decision, not entirely the decision itself.
