Overview
Every team is different, I worked on the design, build and testing of submarine systems. This involved reviewing drawings, creating documentation, visiting suppliers and exploring issues to find solutions to everyday engineering obstacles. I found this placement very rewarding and was also very flexible, so you can move around the business to find a role that suits you.
Skills
Confidence Leadership Teamwork Communication Application of engineering knowledge
Responsibilities
As a placement student, at first I was given less responsibility, however after I showed that I was capable and asked for more challenging tasks. I was given a lot of responsibility and enjoyed the placement because of that.
Support & Guidance
The teams I have been in were all very supportive and early careers was supportive when needed as well.
Culture
The company is very friendly and tight-knitted. As Barrow is quite an isolated place, the team do lots of social events and people make more of an effort to socialise, which is great.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement a lot, and got a lot from it as I made sure to ask for opportunities.
