Overview
Your main responsibility is being the centre of customer orders; dealing with everything from processing the orders, booking the orders in for delivery, liaising with the warehouse regarding delivery of the orders, dealing with and investigating delivery queries/discrepancies. These tasks encourage you to communicate with a plethora of departments within the business, develop your relationships with the customers, and keep a close eye for detail.
Skills
During the placement I have developed exponentially in many areas. The role requires you to utilise your people skills, analytical skills, time management skills, communication skills, the list goes on! This placement has allowed me to develop personally and professionally, therefore building on the job specific skills associated with being in a supply chain role, alongside developing the more transferable personal skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, time management etc.
Responsibilities
It sounds very generic to say, but you are genuinely given a huge amount of responsibility and authority during the placement. To start with, you are thrown straight into the deep end being made completely accountable for up to £100,000 pound orders. Then, as you are given more and more responsibilities over time, and you become more established in your role you are given complete authority over how you manage your time.
Support & Guidance
You are supported every step of the way through your placement by your manager, your team, your wider colleagues, HR etc. You have a wide support network that are willing to help you in any situation/answer any questions you may have. I had a weekly 1-1 meeting with my manager, which actually persisted through the whole placement. This was a fantastic way to get performance feedback, and have any questions I had answered.
Culture
L'Oreal has an extremely powerful company culture and general atmosphere for all the right reasons! Everybody in the company is very sociable, friendly, and genuine. The people in and out of your direct team are more than happy to pause whatever they're doing to help you/answer any questions you have. You are massively encouraged to network, and no level of seniority is untouchable. There are also a huge number of learning opportunities.
Your Impressions
I sincerely enjoyed my placement, my highlights are: - The people I was able to network with; I have learnt so much from just talking with people that have more experience than me. - The personal development learnings I was able to attend alongside my day-to-day responsibilities. - The social events that I was able to attend with the company (inc. Christmas party at Natural History Museum, Summer party at Hurlingham Club, 2 Boat Parties on Thames).
Yes
On all areas of your application; be yourself! This is extremely cliché but extremely true when applying for L'Oreal. The company really value people based on their genuine personality. Please don't try to be someone you're not as this will come across as impersonable and limit your chances of success.
