The Role
Really enjoyed my placement and would look to return in the future
Was included in all aspects of the project and given extra help/info when I asked for it
Support was very good. If I had any questions I could easily ask and get help
I had a constant flow of work to complete. I never felt overwhelmed by the amount of work, but had to frequently multitask.
After a while I was given most of the responsibility for my actions in the lab, from planning experiments to purification of products
I have learnt more in this year on placement than I feel I have in 3 years of university. It will be invaluable
The Company
Everyone was easy to talk to and we went for pub lunches/team building etc
Many training courses were offered by the company and care was taken in ensuring students were included fully in the system
We were given many training courses and advise for future job opportunities/CV writing skills/ presentation skills
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
GSK are currently not recruiting, but I'm hopeful that my placement will help my employment prospects
The Culture
There were over 100 other students at the company and there were weekly social events
As Stevenage is close to London, some places tended to be expensive to socialise. As there is only 1 nightclub, its prices are fairly steep. The cost of living would be similar to any other major town I would assume.
Although there is only 1 nightclub, there are many pubs in stevenage
All opportunities were organised by students. As we had a good range of social students, there were countless activities to take part in
