Overview
The first week involved talks from different partners from the firm's leading practice groups. In between these we had time to meet up for coffee chats with people within the firm, or work in our departments under supervision of our trainee, associate and partner buddies.
Skills
I have developed my teamwork skill through a group project that involved delivering a presentation to a human rights charity, my communication skills through explaining the tasks I completed to my supervisors, and attention to detail in the document review tasks I was assigned.
Business Insight
It was insightful to learn about how BCLP worked as a firm, how departments work together for clients, and how learning and development is central to a trainee's experience.
Culture
Everyone was friendly and down to earth. Partners rarely said no to a request to meet up for coffee and all supervisors were easy to talk to. Some partners were less willing to talk to you than others, but this is understandable with a heavy workload.
Your Impressions
A great extent. I have learned lots about commercial law and the firm, made great connections with people in my team, and developed core skills to help me further in my career.
Yes
Show them you are someone that they would want to work with; someone who they would like to have in their team, both in a professional and personal capacity.
