Overview
We sat in a specific department for two weeks and completed work delegated to us. We also got scheduled insight sessions across the two weeks which delve into the firm's practice areas, culture, growth strategy etc.
Skills
I have definitely developed how I approach teamwork. In particular, we had an insights session which discussed people's different working styles, so going into team situations I had a better understanding of what solutions would work and which one would not. I have also broadened my legal technical expertise being exposed to so many different types of work and tasks during my time at the firm.
Business Insight
It was an insight that law students do not normally have exposure to, even if we attend law firms and ask the firm representatives about it. Being at the firm genuinely exposed us to the firm's daily operations and understand what contributes to a successful commercial law firm.
Culture
The company was incredibly welcoming and everyone I met has been very approachable. People were genuinely invested in my experience and my career journey so far, and even gave me a lot of advice on how to go further and challenge myself.
Your Impressions
I genuinely enjoyed it a lot -- we were exposed to a lot of different aspects of the firm, again not only based in a legal perspective but also in a commercial perspective. Everyone else on the scheme were also really nice, which again reflects the firm's values and the type of people they want to attract.
Yes
Be authentic and be yourself. Genuinely understand your motivations and what you want out of your career. At the same time, when you think about commercial awareness think about it from a client's perspective but also from a firm's perspective. How do firms further themselves and improve their financial prospects?
