The Role
Was a great learning experience, I got to do lots of cross departmental work which was crucial for further developement
I had a struggle to prove myself within my team though but throughout Microsoft you are never viewed as "just an intern"
As you are not viewed as an intern, people sometimes forget that you do need additional support.
Very busy, this was one of my greatest struggles whilst on placement trying to find a work life balance
I covered for my manager and ran senior management meetings.
Although my placement wasn't directly related to my degree, the connections I have made are crucial for my career and the next steps.
The Company
This office was both a social place (table football and pool) but there is a highly professional element
The internship is fantastic and the ability to have cross departmental work experience makes it.
There are great training programmes available and a lot of training that isn't initially provided if you ask they will aim to make it available for you.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
Healthcare from home
The graduate scheme is quite restrictive as only three streams are offered.
The Culture
Excellent. There were always lots of socials and you were never on your own.
Rent is exceptionally cheap in Reading comparatively to other areas. Public transport is expensive.
The nightlife is not bad however there are not many places to go to other than a few bars. A few of the clubs are not the nicest of places.
There are lots of societies with work and volunteering opportunities which is a big appeal to an internship with Microsoft.
